“Ecchi” (エッチ) is the phonetic Japanese for the letter “h”, as in H-entai. It is used to describe a kind of imagery that is sexy but not sexual. In Ecchi, you will often see girls with enormous breasts in skimpy outfits and underwear, or else nude but seen from behind. Ecchi occupies a middle ground between wholesome Anime and Hentai, which has both explicit sex and violence.
